The ''Morlocks'' first appeared as Antagonists in English Sci-Fi Writer HG Wells 1895 Novel ''The Time Machine'' These Creatures would go on to become a very endearing component in both Sci-Fi and Horror since. In the Novel, The Morlocks are Human mutations, from nearly 1 Million years of ''Human Evolution'' (or possibly de-evolution). After a devastating ''Atomic War'' which nearly destroyed all Life on Earth, Man split into two Factions. Those who decided to live Underground in caves and pre-built shelters, and those who ''took their chances'' Above Ground. In time, those living ''On Top''(known as The Eloi) began to adapt and thrived. However, the maintaining of knowledge was forgotten in lieu of basic survival instincts. The ''Undegrounders'' too thrived, but without light and a proper diet, they ''changed'' into an albino form of Creature known as The Morlock. When food sources dwindled, The Morlocks figured that their primary food source were The Eloi. In time, The Morlocks would become Masters to their new Slaves, only taking the required amount to ''eat'' so as to not deplete their overall ''Stock''. This system of survival is broken when Our Hero – a Time Traveler from the 19th Century, frees The Eloi and destroys The Morlock.
The overall design of The Morlocks, was based on the fact that a Human Culture evolved below ground. Skin tone would change in time, as would their ability to ''see'' in low level lighting (being almost blinded by normal light levels). Developed thru time to be smaller (to move thru cramp space), and extremely strong. They would have basic mechanical abilities but no advanced concepts as elated to development. The first filmed example of The Morlock ''Race'' was in 1960 with the Film ''The Time Machine''. The Race has been re-imaged several time in remakes.
