Jane Clouson was a House Maid in Eltham, London, England – in 1871. A rather ‘’fetching’’ girl, Her Employer, The Pook Family, had a handsome Son (roughly the same age). One ‘’thing lead to another’’ and the two became intimate. But young Pook was from a wealthy Family and Clouson was a servant. When Jane announced to young Pook that she was in fact – pregnant, He promised to marry Her. But Pook told His Father and Mother of His predicament (and They were QUITE upset). Unable to marry ‘’beneath His Station in Life’’, young Pook told Jane that not only could He NOT marry Her – She was terminated from employment! The distraught girl perhaps threatened to expose the scandal to The Press (some later thought). But on the night of April 26th 1871 – Jane was found stumbling thru the street, so badly beaten (by a hammer it was later learned), that Her once ‘’beautiful face’’ was unrecognizable. The white linen dress She wore was covered solid Red with Her ‘’blood and gore’’. Jane was taken to a Hospital, were She kept repeating – over and over again, ‘’Please Let me Die’’. Before She did (3 days later in extreme pain), She did name Pook as Her Killer.

Arrested, Pook had an alibi (and His Parents money). He was brought to Court – but He was subsequently released on ‘’lack of evidence’’. Many felt His ‘’station in Life’’, got Him out of His ‘’problem’’. But for the rest of His life, the Trial followed Him – up to and including His death many years later. As for the unfortunate Jane Clouson? Well, she would become a very popular ‘’Ghost Story’’. For many years after, Her ‘’Spirit’’ would be ‘’seen and heard’’ – moving thru the City Cemetery. Still wearing Her ’’blood stained dress’’, She screams for ‘’Justice’’ and to be allowed to ‘’Just Die!’’ Jane would be a well and often told ‘’Ghost Story’’ until after World War II (1945-1946), when she just simply ‘’stopped’’ haunting……Or So It is Said!
