The Spider Bite

While we have seen the ''power'' of Urban Legends, and their easy comparison to similar variations from The Middle Ages, most ''Modern'' tales are calculated at being far more ''creepier'' and meant to entice fear rather that being cautionary tales (although some tellings are as well). Perhaps the most ''unnerving'' example would be the story of ''The Spider Bite''. Traced possibly to the 1970s (although some may cite the 1840s as well) in several European Countries, versions have since migrated to all over The World.

The basic version involves a vain Girl who awakens one morning to find a blemish on Her face (pimple). A ''right of passage'' for most of us, the Girl cannot stand the sight of it. Her Mother advises to let it ''come to a head'' and ''not to pick at it). Day after day, the blemish grows in size until the Girl can no longer wait. She ''pops'' the offending ''zit'' only to find Her face ''bursting open'' and thousands of ''baby spiders'' rushing out. The ''pimple'' was in reality....a Spider's bite (one which resulted in the laying of eggs). Relaters of the story will tell you it is ''absolutely true''.

While some parasites can exist under a human's skin (and some revolting medicals cases have been known to be true), no clear cut case of spiders coming forth from blemishes have been recorded...''Or So It Is Said!''
