Next to Achilles, ‘’Ajax’’ was perhaps the greatest mythological Greek Hero venerated. The Son of King Aegina – Ajax was said to be favored by The Gods. Incredibly strong and resourceful, He too fought in the epic Trojan War (even engaging with Troy’s Hector in hand to hand combat). Credited with recovering Achilles body after The Burning of Troy, Ajax was protected from The Trojans by His ‘’Great Shield’’. So large, no ‘’normal Man’’ could heft it – it was crafted on Mt. Olympus under the command of Zeus. It was made from the hides of no less than (7) Bulls and covered in Gold Plate. But Ajax (later), became depressed with the loss of His friend Achilles and in a fit – killed Himself (throwing Himself off a Cliff). The whereabouts of His Shield was never made known, and it is assumed it was buried with Him.
