During routine exploration of a collapsed Salt Mine in Zanjan Provence, Northwest Iran - around 1993, Workers found the Human remains of (6) Miners. Clothing, Tools, even remains of food packs were found. Perhaps the ‘’final resting place’’ of Miners – it would be learned that the six remains were 1,700 years old. Both the depth of the shaft (300-feet), the cold and of course salt – all help to preserve the bodies so well, they ‘’look’’ to have been buried only a few years past. The bodies (although some were in pieces), were thought to have Miners digging salt (a valuable commodity for food preservation), were in such excellent condition, that even examples of their blood from soft tissues could be extracts. It is further speculated, The Workers were trapped in a Mine collapse too deep for their Fellows topside to recover. It was further found that not all of them died in the collapse. Some may have suffocated.  The amazing find was preserved and The Miners, known by The Museum they are housed in – as ‘’Saltmen’’, can still be ‘’visited’’ today.
