The Rex Heflin Photograph

Another very famous and classic early UFO photo was taken on August 3, 1965 by Rex Heflin. AN Orange County, California (US) Highway Inspector, he traveled his fair share of the highways and byways for his job inspecting roads under construction and under repair. At 12:37 P.M. On the date in question, Heflin propelled himself into the world of UFOlogy. On a County Road, he saw what appeared to be a metallic, Hat-shaped Object fly directly across the road. The Object stopped, hover AND performed the same act AGAIN! The second pass , Heflin grabbed his camera and took the immortal shot . Totally amazed at his encounter, Heflin immediately tried to contact his Dispatcher to make a report. He noticed his 2-way car radio would not work. When Heflin was able to put several miles between him and The Object , his radio started to work again. Heflin reported his story to local Wire Services and had his photo developed.

A Background Investigation into Heflin's character was made. He appeared to be a normal American man who was well thought of and regarded by his fellow Workers. The photo was carried in MANY American and International papers. Of note, the original negatives of the Objects showed great clarity of the Object when enhanced. Somewhere along the line, copies were circulated by unknown sources which attempted to decry the image as a hoax. The original negatives have been examined MANY times. They show no evidence of trickery. The forged or altered copies (often widely available now), show a string (by which one could have hung such a toy ).
