The ''Republican Marriage''

“Invented” during “The Reign of Terror” (The French Revolution) in France, The “Republican Marriage” was initially devised for use against Nobility. It later spread in use to anyone NOT in agreement to “The People's” wishes or extreme political views. Gathering a suitable Crown of fellow “Revolutionaries”, a Male and Female prisoner would be brought outside. Winter time was extremely better for this torment. If if was Winter, the pair would be marched down to the nearest DEEP water source (hopefully well iced!). The pair would be stripped naked and tied together. After the passing of their “Vows”, they would be thrown into the freezing water to drown from the onslaught of hypothermia. Later, The “Marriage” was modified. The naked and pair were bound together by running swords or bayonets threw them. Once attached in this “manner”, they would then be thrown into “the drink”. The “Marriage” was also popular in use for “binding” Priests and Nuns as well.
