This Military "encounter" happened on July 17, 1956. On a routine training flight, a US Air Force RB-47 (which was an Electronics Counter Measures aircraft) - was tasked to fly from it's Base at Forbes AFB in Topeka, Kansas - and fly over the Continental US. The end of the flight was The Gulf of Mexico. At around 3:30 AM, the 6 crewmen began to pickup "strange radio signals" (over Mississippi). Within seconds, a "brilliant light" was seen descending from the Upper Left of the Pilots window in the cockpit. The RB-47 was traveling at 38,000 feet. The Object flew to a position. Under the Aircraft at an altitude of 20,000 feet. Ground Radar tracked the Object which was obviously following the RB-47. Radar followed them over Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas. Just prior to The Gulf of Mexico, the Object rose to an altitude of 40,000 feet and continued rising into Space at an estimated speed of 900 mph. Upon landing, the crew filed their official reports. "Officially", The Air Force will only say that The RB-47 was tracking and "unknown" Object, citing it as a probable "Soviet aircraft" of similar design to The RB-47, conducting a "similar" mission.
