The Pillars of Hercules

An ancient Legend, perhaps even older than it’s 3,500 BC ‘’date’’ – The ‘’Pillars of Hercules’’ was what is now seen as The Strait of Gibraltar (separating The Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea). It was from this Peak (The Pillar of Calpe Mons) and it’s now submerged Twin, The Pillar of Abila Mons the Greek Hero and demi-God Hercules, was credited with one of His ‘’Feats’’ (Trials). Some versions state that Hercules ‘’made’’ the Twin land extensions as a means of ‘’holding up The Heavens’’ and thus allowing The Titan Atlas to escape His suffering (holding up The World on His shoulders). One of the  more popular myths center around a massive bronze statue of Hercules ‘’pushing’’ against massive bronze pillars. However, n o archaeological proof exists of this ‘’marvel of engineering’’. Many think it is simply a historical ‘’misdirect’’ for the classic Legend of The Colossus of Rhodes. The Pillar of Hercules would become even wider known in mythos, thanks to Greek Philosopher Plato. His ‘’brief’’ description of them – which was seen as the ‘’starting point’’ for a journey to the Continent of Atlantis. In truth, it served as the starting point for Greek and Phoenician Trade Ships.
