The vast majority of the ‘’Legend’’ of The ‘’Pig Man of Northfield’’ is rooted in ‘’Modern Mythos’’. Much like similar stories from hundreds (and thousands) of years ago, most were based on superstition and speculation. The State of Vermont (US) is not immune to these ‘’oral tales’’ known now as Urban Legend. So here is The Tale of one Samuel Harris (or just plain ‘’Sam’’ - if you will). In October of 1951, many teenagers engaged in more ‘’Trick’’ than ‘’Treat’’. Sam wasn’t a ‘’bad’’ Boy (but He wasn’t a ‘’Good’’ one either). His friends stated that They to meet up later and vandalize local Businesses by throwing raw eggs at their Store Fronts (a common juvenile practice known as ‘’Egging’’). But Sam was last seen heading into the woods near His home in Northfield. The next morning, He was not found in His bedroom. His parents called Police.
The Tales goes into the realm of weird based on several variations of the theme (as it were). In one, Sam was smoking cigarettes in the woods, when He was attacked (and eaten), by a strange hybrid Monster (often called a ‘’Pig Man’’). Part Human and Part Pig, it was said to be covered in ‘’White Fur’’ and had claws. In another (more accepted) ‘’version’’, Sam was bitten by The Pig Man and – die to The Creature being rabid, transferred it’s ‘’disease’’ to Sam. He went insane and ‘’became’’ The Pig Man. However, Sam didn’t completely transform. So He regularly kills Pigs and cuts off their head – making a ‘’Pig Mask’’. Partially naked, Sam wears the ‘’face’’ to terrorize those foolhardy enough to venture into the wooded and mountainous Region called The ‘’Devil’s Washbowl’’. And while no concrete evidence that ‘’Sam’’ is a cannibal, most locals assign Him the blame for any missing persons.
More than one skeleton (human), has been found in the woods by Police (but these are attributed to Vagrants). Some other versions of Sam’s story, is that His insanity not only makes Him ‘’think’’ He a feral Pig, He even supposedly ‘’mates’’ with The – creating a hideous race of Hybrid ‘’Pig People’’. So, if you are so inclined to ‘’believe’’ The Tale of The Pig Man, travel to Vermont….For A Visit!
