On September 20, 1977, a strange occurrence happened in the skies over Vladivostok, Russia. In fact, the phenomenon was also seen over Denmark and Sweden, as well. Termed The Petrozavodsk Lights (after in Russian for Anomalous ) - it was ANYTHING but that. Between 1 and 120 A.M. A large circular disc which emitted bright pulses and charges of light was seen drifting over Vladivostok. Radar throughout the Country picked up the Object (which was apparently solid). It was reported by HUNDREDS of witnesses in Russia (with the same consistency). In many accounts, sparks and light beams of a multitude of colors were well evident. Ships at sea saw the Object (even Russian Military saw the Object). Some reports claimed that the Object was transparent others appearing quite solid . Heading towards Denmark, several Passenger Flights claimed to see this ''fireworks'' show in the sky as it maintained what many thought was a controlled course . Some on the ground, compared the Object to a giant, floating Jellyfish floating in the air . The Object continued on it's course to Sweden (with even more ground and air sightings reported). It eventually faded into the sky. With such spectacular sightings (in at least 3 Countries) MANY facts go unanswered. First, (as closed lipped as The Russians were (and are) about their Air Defenses they claimed that while normal Air Control Radar DID register the phenomenon , their Air Defense Systems DIDN'T. Further, NO COUNTRY dispatched ANY Intercept Flights. Yet, visual and Radar evidence (not to mention the many THOUSANDS who saw and reported the phenomenon to this day no clear cut explanation has been given. In most cases, (when pressed) Scientists claim a new form of The Aurora Borealis was seen. Even NASA was forwarded research information. They claimed no answer or explanation. Whatever The Petrozavodsk Phenomenon was it has NOT happened since.
