Portugal's National Air Force experienced a truly amazing Event in 1982. At Ota Air Base (just North of Lisbon), an Air Force Flight Instructor with many hundreds of hours of flight time had a very ''Close Encounter''. It was 11 AM, on November 2nd. The Instructor was making a routine Flight (without Student), from Ota. Suddenly, The Instructor noticed a ''large Disc shaped Object'' jut from underneath His Aircraft and pace Him ''from below His Jet''. So as to avoid collision with The Object, The Instructor maintain a steady air speed and altitude with the Craft. The Aircraft (a prop driven Trainer), was doing roughly 210-mph. The Instructor stated that The Craft ''appeared to be two halves, joined together''. He also noted a ''series of glowing lights, both White and Yellow  spinning around the perimeter of The Craft''. The Instructor decided to take an evasive route, peeling away from The Craft. He lost sight of it from His new Route. So, He decided  He would estimate the most probable spot The Craft would be based on speed. He flew to that ''spot''. Almost immediately, The Craft reappeared (coming close enough this time to cause The Plane's collision alert to sound.

Within seconds, The Craft accelerated to what The Instructor thought to be in excess of 400-mph. Within seconds of this, The Object shot up into the sky above The Instructor's plane  and out of sight. Returning to Base, The Instructor checked with Ground Radar. They had plotted an unusual ''anomaly'' near The Instructor's Plane, but it took off too fast to maintain a course  let alone scramble an Interceptor Flight. The Instructor promptly reported The Encounter to His Superiors. Nothing was done. The Event still has not been explained or debunked.
