The Vermont State Asylum for The Insane was first opened in that American State in 1891. Located near The Town of Waterbury, until it's unofficial closure as a physical detainment facility in 1963 – it was used mostly for Administrative Offices, with all of it's ''Tenants'' moved to a more modern facility. The Old Asylum saw storm and flood damage throughout it's existence, much of which was never properly repaired. By 2012, The Site was declared a Historic Place (thanks to grass-roots preservation moves).

However, as with all types of these ''places'', reports of many Paranormal and unexplained activities have been reported over the years. The facility saw many poor unfortunates, so disturbed – that any form of long term treatment was seen as impossible. Many who died there, with no family to claim their remains, found themselves interred in The Hospital Cemetery.

One such tales of the strange, comes from a former Nurse at The Hospital. A woman Patient had lost Her infant child at birth, and the event drove Her insane (1930s). as a means of placating Her, The Staff gave Her a toy baby doll. The Woman treated the doll as if it was a ''living child''. So attached, she would behave violently if any one tried to remove the ''toy. When She died, the Nurse saw no need to waste the doll, and gave it to Her Grand-daughter (big mistake it will seem).

The rather creepy doll was greatly cherished by the young child – who played with it often. However, at night – the sound of ''singing'' (a child's voice) was heard. The girls Parents rose at night, ready to admonish the girl for being up late at night. When they entered Her room though, The girl was fast asleep. Only The Doll, sitting in a rocking chair – seemingly staring at the child, was seen.

Soon the girl seemed to act ''strangely''. She would behave quite violent if anyone tried to take away the baby doll. She would often be found sitting in Her rocking chair, gently rocking and singing to the figure. When Grandma Nurse came by to visit, she was somewhat shocked to see Her Grand-daughter acting ''almost like Her former Patient'', slowly rocking Her ''child'' to sleep.

When The girl outgrew her ''toy'', The family removed the toy. It wound up in a local Antiques Store and was eventually purchased by a Private Owner. Incidentally, The Doll was up for sale on The Internet recently for a remarkable fee of just $100 USD.   Any Takers..........?
