Perhaps one of Maritime History's most debated mysteries – The ''Mary Celeste'' was an American Brigantine (Sailing) Vessel which was found adrift in 1872 under ''mysterious circumstances''. Home Ported in Nova Scotia, a Crew of (13) were never found. No evidence (remains) were uncovered. Food, beverages, everything that was ''being used'' was still in it's same location as placed. When recovered, there was no evidence of Piracy or related attack. Just a pristine, 200-displaced tonned Ship. Wrecked in 1885 off Haiti, The ''Mary Celeste'' would become one of the most written of Nautical Mysteries of the 19th and early 20th Centuries. All manner of ''cause'' was given – mostly in ''fiction'' Novels. From ''Ghostly Pirates'', to a Crew that ''went mad and killed each other off by jumping into The Sea'', to strange ''Lights in The Sky'' – all manner of tale has been told. Scientists state that The Ship may have fallen prey to methane gas eruptions from the Sea Floor which may have ''swallowed up'' The ''Celeste'', drug Her deep below The Waters (washing away the bodies). Although this has flaws too. Some cite a long uttered Curse on The ''Celeste's'' Captain's Family (from centuries prior) – as being the real cause. No Doubt even today, The ''Mary Celeste'' remains one of the most well known Mystery Tales of The Sea, since The ''Flying Dutchman''.
