An amazing archaeological find, The Lady Dai, Xin Zhui was an important woman within China’s Han Dynasty. Her Title ‘’Dai’’ was the equivalent of Europe’s ‘’Marquise’’. Married to a Nobleman, She lived a very opulent and pampered life when She died in 168 BC (aged 50). Discovered during excavations for a Bomb Shelter in The City of Hunan in 1968, She was in a perfect state of preservation. Despite obvious decomposition traces, even The Lady Dai’s skin ‘’color’’ was retained – 1,000 years after Her demise. The Lady’s remains were so well preserved, that the tissue was still soft to the touch. She was not wrapped up as with an Egyptian Mummy – but Her ‘’Shroud'' was 20 layers of fine, untreated silk. and just ‘’How’’ She was so well preserved is still a mystery today.
