Hammer Film Studios 1959 critical flop, "The Man Who Could Cheat Death" starred A ton Diffring, Hazel Court and to a lesser degree, Christopher Lee - was a good idea fir a Horror Film that never quite "got there". Set in 1890s Paris, France, it deals with a young and brilliant Surgeon with a small talent for sculpting. It also appears, He has another talent.....immortality! Finding a way to use the extracted parathyroid glands of corpses, when surgically inserted into His body, He stops aging for 10 years. An Elixir taken as a booster also helps. The good Doc has been doing thus for around 125 years. Helped over the past 50 years by His friend, another surgeon - when the now old man suffers a stroke, a new surgeon is needed. The Good Doc also finds that living glands seem to work better. So He uses His talent as an Artist to lure Models for posing - then killing. However, He has a fondness for His latest Model. So too does a gifted young surgeon who once dated Her. Blackmailed into performing the operation, the new Doctor only faked the work. Realizing too late, our "Monster" begins to rapidly age. In the ensuing fight with His young rival, a fire breaks out in The Studio. Our 100 plus year old Monster crumbles and burns away.
