The 1980s are best remembered for it’s retro-Pop Music, garish clothing and Hair Styles and a Host of Vampire Genre Films. Warner Brothers 1988 venture into the Type was ‘’The Lost Boys’’. Assembling a Cast of ‘’Teen Heart Throbs’’ who would go on to become Major Stars in Their Own right, ‘’Everyone’’ has to start somewhere. ‘’Lost Boys’’ (which took it’s Titl from a reference to Peter Pan’s Gang of immortal children), was seen as the first Vampire Film to somewhat ‘’modernize’’ Vampires. Gritty, Rebel-Types etc. Not an altogether bad Plot, it would be followed by extremely BAD sequels – mostly having nothing to do with the original save the poor attempt to use the Title, ‘’Lost Boys’’.

In short, we are in Santa Clara, California (part Surf, part Lower Desert – the best of ‘’Both Worlds’’). But to a recently divorced Mom and Her Sons (a Loner Teen and a much younger and confused Brother) – coming from The East Coast, California is a ‘’Culture Shock’’. Settling in, The Younger Boy (a comic book Fan), meets two same age Boys who not only are fellow Comic Fans, but ‘’self proclaimed’’ Vampire Hunters (Kids and Their Fantasies). The Older Brother falls for a mysterious Girl who invites Him to meet Her Friends. These ‘’Kids’’ are true Rebels Themselves and apparently REAL Vampires. Enchanted by drinking a ‘’special Wine’’, The Older Brother begins to exhibit ‘’vampiric’’ abilities (pain of sunlight, moody, etc). He is slowly ‘’becoming’’ One of ‘’The Boys’’.

It is later learned (thru The Kid’s Vampire Comics), that a single ‘’Master Vampire’’ is responsible for this ‘’Coven’’. The Film continues with The Younger Brother and Friends trying to save Older ‘’Bro’’ and root out The Master. The Film did surprisingly well for The Genre, and even developed a HUGE Fan Base. It was once one of the most ‘’rented’’ Videos (well into the 1990s). It is somewhat dated (and ca be silly at times), but ‘’The Lost Boys’’ isn’t all that bad for a modern ‘’Vampire’’ Film. AVOID all sequels, though!
