Told of in Story and Legend, no other items in Human History (other than The Holy Grail), has sparked so much imagination than The Ark of The Covenant. The wood crate, covered in sheaves of fine crafted Gold, topped by a lid featuring twin Cherubs (Angels) - was said to hold none other than the Stone Tablets of the Ten Commands, written - as it was said, by "The Finger of God". Maintained by The Priests of Israel in (at first), a "mobile" Temple, it would eventually be the central point of the massive Temple of Solomon in a MUCH later City of Jerusalem. Legend states (as does The Holy Bible and it's "Book of Exodus"), that Priest's could "communicate with "God", via The Ark. Anyone other than a Priest would die immediately, should they open The Ark it even attempt such an act. The Ark was also a powerful weapon. It was said that when carried at the front of The Hebrew Army, "thunderbolt of fire" would "smite" down ALL enemies. It was supposedly used several time. In some cases, even an accidental "touch" of The Ark would cause quick death. Few surviving descriptions tell if instant "burns" and "blisters" to the flesh, coupled with vomiting "black fluids".
This mysterious artifact also was said to contain "The Rod of Aaron" (better known as "The Staff of Moses") as well as a container if the equally mysterious substance known as "Manna". Removed from Jerusalem during it's Fall to Ancient enemies, The Ark was moved and hidden so many times, that no one is sure just were it is or who has it. Rumors of it being in Iran, to Egypt to even America - gave been put forth. There are literally thousands of myths and legends as to The Ark's "final" resting place. In the UFO Community, The Ark fits in well with many Ancient Alien visitation stories. Some speculate The Ark is indeed an ancient "two-way" radio communications device. Others, that The Ark as a "Holy Weapon" Theory, point to the fact that slain enemies and those few "accidental" contacts - have injuries consistent with exposure to high levels of radiation. Whichever point of view you take, one thing is clear, The Ark of The Covenant - when "re-discovered" (if it ever is), would no doubt answer MANY questions.....or perhaps raise others!
