Based on a 1913 Novel, ''The Lodger'' has been filmed many times. It is perhaps the 1944 20th Century Fox Studios Production, which is perhaps the most popular. The film deals with the infamous 19th Century London England Serial Killer – Jack The Ripper. Although never referred to as ''Jack'', the killer is portrayed as a quiet and creepy Man living as a Lodger in a Family Home. Filmed in Black & White to great effect, The Lodger shows a deeply troubled person, tormented by various mental demons and His lashing out at those whom He blames for all His short comings as a Man – His female victims. When Police finally track Him down, a typical cinematic foot chase thru London has The Lodger jumping to His death into The River Thames. Rather well received by critics and viewers, the film is now looked as a classic piece of 1940s Horror-Thriller, done more with off-screen violence, rather than blood and gore.
