As we have seen with President Lincoln's possible "Ghost", there are even more legends born out of that take. This one, surrounds a reputed "Ghost Train" associated with the Lincoln Ghost. Whereas Ghostly Locomotives are somewhat common fare in Paranormal circles, this one is still worthy of mention. In today's time, US Presidents travel by plane (Air Force One) and helicopter (Marine One). In the 19th and we'll into the early 20th Century, it was by train. Lincoln was assigned one when he was elected President in 1860. In was in his train that he and his wide made the trip from Springfield, Illinois to Washington. Consisting of nine cars, it was also this train tasked to carry his remains back, after he was assassinated in 1865. It was planned (and was one if the first) times that Lincoln's body would pass through as many Northern cities as possible on it's way back to Springfield. The first leg of the journey was Albany, New York.
Bedecked in US Flags and black bunting, the train featured a large portrait of the former President mounted on the face of the engine. Many years later, the train was dismantled. But it apparently remained in service. Starting in the 1890s, on the lonely strip of track between New York and Washington, people began to hear the sounds of an approaching steam locomotive. Seeing no engine lights, the sound of the train grows closer. Occasionally , people reported seeing a brief glance (out of time it seems), of none other than Lincoln's Train on it's way to Albany! Up to the 1920s, this phenomenon was reported - and only on April 27th (the date of it's arrival in Albany). Even today, many home grown groups assemble along the now seldom used tracks, hoping to hear or even see the "passing of The President".
