The Kumi Lizard

A Part of New Zealand Mythos, The ‘’Kumi Lizard’’ was said to be a ‘’Monster’’ which was reported as early as the 18^th Century, by European Explorers. Maori Tribal Culture also speaks of The Kumi (for centuries). The Kumi is said to have been closer to 35-feet long and perhaps several hundred tons in weight. As late as the late 1890s, locals have reported ‘’Kumi Sightings’’. The sighting are also accompanied by the lost of livestock (presumably eaten by the possible surviving prehistoric beast). In truth, Kumi may be a form of Monitor Lizard, which can grow to large sizes and are aggressive (but obviously not to the descriptions commonly given). Most photographic evidence (of footprints0 are over a century old, and quite debated. There have been no recent 20^th or 21^st Century ‘’reports’’.
