A 1993 classed ‘’B’’-Movie (unfairly) – ‘’The Killing Box’’ (aka ‘’Ghost Brigade’’ and several other re-purposed Titles), was actually a rather well made and at time accurate American Horror Film, which brought forth ‘’Zombie Soldiers’’ with a flair of American History. A few well known Actors (Martin Sheen for one), star. Financed by Television Mogel Ted Turner (Himself a Civil War Historian and Enthusiast), ‘’Killing Box’’ will surprise you. Never shown in Movie Theaters (it was a Direct to Video Production, sadly), The Title takes it’s name from a Civil War tactic, by which an Enemy Force was surrounded. With rifles brough to bear from all sides – hence a ‘’Killing Box’’, none would have survived.
Taking -place in 1862, a Confederate Regiment (51st Alabama), is outgunned and forced into a ‘’Killing Box’’ by Federal Soldiers. Before the battle, The Rebels are hiding out in a cave. Unbeknownst to them, the cave was used by escaped African slaves from The Yoruba Tribe. They summoned Evil Demon Spirits to deal with Their Slave Masters and – when done, cast The Spirits into the cave. Accidentally freed by The Soldiers, The Spirits possess Them. When the battle ensues, The Rebels (now Zombies), quickly make short work of Their Enemy. Every Soldier They kill, regardless of being Federal of Rebel – are likewise turned. This creates a ‘’combined’’ Zombie Army.
Federal authorities send out a ‘’Task Force’’ to deal with The Horde. Recruiting The Rebels former Commander (captured before the change), Our Heroes go after The Undead. Learning from a former Yoruban Slave Girl, that The Undead cannot fight during The Day (sunlight will turn Them to dust), at night – They can only be killed with silver. Using silver cast bullets and bayonets dipped in the metal – a climatic end battle ensues. As stated, well filmed and with no ‘’over the top’’ Acting, makes ‘’The Killing Box’’ an enjoyable 1-hour and 20-minutes of Horror. It can be found on DVD and on many Streaming
Services.
