In The City of Chicago, Illinois (US) – there are many tales of Ghosts and their related Legends. From Gangsters to Ghouls, there is a tale of such just around every corner. The Story of Julia Petta is another local story, which has attained ''Urban Legend'' status. Perhaps proof of ''contact from Beyond''? Or just a ''weird story''. Here is is for your wonderings.....Julia Petta (aka ''The Italian Bride), was a pretty girl who married in 1921 (at 29 years of age). She became pregnant soon afterwards. But sadly, Julia's child was still born, and She suffered a severe hemorrhage – dying so young as well. As per an earlier request, Julia told Her Mother She desired to be buried in Her Wedding Dress. Her despondent Mother obliged. 6 years later, The Family moved away to Los Angeles. It was then that Julia's Mother began to have ''strange dreams''. ''Seeing'' Her dead Daughter (in Her Wedding Dress), ''She'' told Her that ''She was still alive''. This couldn't be obviously. But the distraction forced Julia's Mother to travel back and forth between Chicago and Los Angeles ''visiting'' Julia's Grave. The dreams became so intense, that She sought The Courts to have Julia exhumed. It was then the ''weirdness'' started. When ''dug up'', Julia's coffin was already beginning to decompose. But when opened, ''Julia'' appeared to have ''just been buried. The only sign of decomposition was Her still born child (in Her arm). Both ''He'' and Julia's arm had severely decayed. But the ''rest of Julia'' (to include clothing), was pristine. Mother had a new headstone constructed, to include a picture (inset), of Julia in Her Wedding Dress (on Her Wedding Day) and of course, a picture of ''Her'' in Her exhumed state (also inset into the headstone). It can still be seen today.
Several explanations can be advanced. Perhaps Julia was ''perfectly preserved'' by virtue of the formulation of ''whatever'' was used by The Undertaker. Perhaps, as in other more famous cases, the right combination of soil content, depth and temperatures – all contributed to Julia's preservation. But none of this explains the ''dream'' of Julia's Mother. Further, no ''official'' record can be found of any exhumation either. Strange, but then how does one account for Julia's ''postmortem'' picture?
