The ''Iron Mountain'' was a Stern Wheeler that plied The Mississippi River. She was launched in 1872. The 181-foot Vessel was 35-feet tall. Working near Vicksburg, Mississippi she was hauling Cotton and Sugar. Hitting an unknown and unseen underwater obstacle, The ''Iron Mountain'' exploded mysteriously. The Crew tried to beach her on dry ground, but were unable. Unable to control the flames, all passenger and crew were able to escape save one. Ellen Anderson was a Crew Member who worked as a Maid on The Ship. Caught below decks, her burned body was recovered the next day floating on some scattered wreckage, Buy no one could find the bulk of her wreckage. Most assumed she had simply sunk. Since 1882, The ''Iron Mountain'' is still seen on occasion her flaming visage floating down The Mississippi, with none other than poor Ms. Anderson, still walking The Decks, trying to find a way off the doomed River Boat.
