The ''catchy'' name aside – The ''Interplanetary Phenomenon Unit'' was indeed a REAL Organization of The United State Military, in particular The US Army. ''It'' was the brainchild of none other than famed General Douglas MacArthur (Hero of World War II and Korea). And while any ''record searches'' for the 1947 ''Department'' does NOT exist ''officially'', requests reference that ''any records would have been transferred to The US Air Force (who would ultimately assume responsibility for the investigation and overall debunking of Unidentified Flying Objects). But in typical Government ''double speak'', they do not state it never existed. MacArthur (as Commanding General of The Army, briefly) – would have been ''briefed'' by then US President Harry Truman (long seen as being among the first US Presidents to be well aware of ''Alien existence'' and the proof thereof). He would have naturally sought out ''competent people'' to develop investigative and protection protocols. MacArthur would have been a very likely selection for such. As rumors go, The General ''created'' The IPU as not only a means of investigating reports of UFOs, He may have even developed a defense force – one that could very well have pre-dated the current ''Space Force'' of The US Military. Any ''specialized Units'' or exact protocols do NOT exist (at least any available for even Public scrutiny via The US Freedom of Information Act). Again, ''officially'', The US Army will ''tell'' you than any records were transferred to The USAF – which in turn would created several ''Projects'' to investigate the phenomenon. These would conclude with the infamous investigative Bureau and report published – called ''Project – Blue Book''.
