The Torture and Execution practice known as The ''Horse Pull'' is actually many centuries older than The Middle Ages. The practice may go back as far as before Ancient Greece. The Convicted or Accused would have their hands and feet tied to 4 horses (although later, Bulls were used). The horses would then either “slowly” be lead to 4 opposing directions. This would cause the victim to be raised off the ground and pulled. The pain was comparable to The Rack torture method. When all was said and done, the animals would be allowed to charge off at speed. This would rip off the Victims arms and legs – rather quickly and painfully. Often, bets would be placed to see which appendage would come off first!
