Who hasn't gone thru a ''Haunted House'' attraction during Halloween? These are often empty buildings or rented ones, in which Promoters ''build'' a representation of an actual ''Haunted Home'', - filled with every manner of ''Terror''. Paid Volunteers, dressed and performing as some terrifying Monster or Serial Killer, is the ''norm''. Often, these Houses pop up the first Week of October and operate thru November 1st. They often charge a fee to wander thru various ''themed'' rooms, all for the chance to ''scare'' it's Customers. All ''Good Fun''. Even local permanent Amusement Parks open similar ''Houses'' often hiring professional Actor and used professional make-up and effects. But in the 1970s, the ''Houses'' were seen as propagating ''Sin'' and glorying ''Evil and The Devil'' – by a large percentage of Protestant Religious Groups. Then came the counter idea......''The Hell House''.
In application, working just as a traditional ''Haunted House'', the terror of The Hell House is to show young Christians the ''Evils'' they face should they associate themselves with a variety of ''Worldly Pleasures and Vices'''. This could be smoking, drinking, out-of-marriage sexual relations. Almost every manner of ''Sinful'' Act is ''portrayed'' by Christian Actors, often dressed to ''the part''. Most Hell Houses ''end'' with a graphic depiction of ''Hell'', complete with ''Souls in Torment and Demons''. While not as popular as they were in the 1990s, Hell Houses can still be found in MANY smaller American Towns.
