The Great Chicago Fire (Chicago, Illinois, US) was a conflagration that decimated The City of Chicago in 1871. A vast majority of the still wooden framed City burned to the ground with a ''moderate'' loss of life (as one might expect, thousands – only 300 recorded are known). Without proper fire suppression technology, the great tragedy is well recorded as well. And as One could expect – The Fire spawned many Ghost stories and ''future'' Paranormal Activities. Submitted for your intrigue – is The Chicago Water Tower (located on Michigan Ave, near Downtown). The Tower, actually a granite-stone structure – reaching nearly 200-feet, it is one of the few ''monuments'' which did not burn down. It's ''Legend'' states that during the huge fire, a lone Fireman climbed to The Tower as a means of releasing water (cascading down onto the street). But the flame grew higher and The Tower became a death trap. It is told that rather than burn to death, The Hero hung himself (his corpse being found after the fire ended). Since, it is said that the ghostly apparition of The Fireman can still be seen hanging from The Tower. ''He'' has been ''felt'' by those who climb it, with supposed Paranormal Investigators even ''detecting'' His presence. Some also cite, that granite is a well-known stone that has the ability to ''record'' Energy. Therefore, perhaps His ''energy'' (generated while suffering) was thus ''copied'' on the stone of The Tower.
