The Haunted Viaduct Inn

 The Viaduct Pub and Tavern on Newgate Street, in London, England - features all the ambience of a typical United Kingdom venue of it's nature. It attracts many Tourists. Most however, come not for the "atmosphere", but for the possibility of "seeing" one of it's many "reported" Ghosts. You see, Viaduct Inn ranks as one of London's "most haunted". It's no wonder, either. Although named for the nearby Holborn Viaduct, it (when built in 1874), was directly next to a rather infamous site in London History...namely Newgate Prison. The Prison operated from 1188 to 1902, and was the "home" to some of England's most sensational criminals. Some 1,169 people were executed there during it's operation. Demolished in 1904, it was during renovations of The Viaduct Inn's cellar, that when expansion was started, an entire section of Newgate's prison cells were found. Most of the new "rooms" (some with bars intact), were indeed used to store alcohol as well as merchandise. But perhaps, something was "disturbed", because since 1898, The Inn has experienced a steady stream of "otherworldly" activities. Ghostly forms passing through walls, "Cold Spots", breaking dishes and glasses, just about everything one can "imagine" has been reported. And of course, there is the matter of the "photographs".

MANY alleged photos have been produced over the years, of "things seen" - normally not by the "unaided eye". From "old fashioned" camera equipment to more modern infrared devices, all have been brought forth. None however, are as famous as the 1988 photo. Eerie and disturbing, it is purported to show a very detailed images of a Spirit. Taken by Lars Thomas, he was simply taking a photo of the cellar during a Paranormal Investigation. Feeling a "Cold Spot" in a doorway, the picture was later developed to show what appeared to be a Man in a Dark Suit. Perhaps he was a Guard or Inmate. What makes one think "Condemned Man", is the abnormal angle that "his" head is "held". Maybe he was executed by hanging, unaware that he is now dead. Maybe it is something else.....
