Originally discovered during an archaeological dig in West Azerbaijan (Iran) – the skeletal remains identified as The ‘’Hasanlu Lovers’’ have been a subject of debate for years. Found in a common grave, the remains were ‘’arranged in death’’ to appear to be embracing – with one such skeleton ‘’kissing the other’’. No such finds were ever located in The World in such a position. Said to be Male and Female, the pair died around 800 BC. Neither had any signs or evidence of having been murdered or executed. In fact, based on testing of their calcium, both were is remarkable ‘’health’’ when they died. However, after more in-depth testing, it was determined that both skeletons were in fact – Males (thus creating the obvious mystery). Were the two Lovers in life, or had they been arranged post mortem in the pose (and for that reason, why?) The roughly determined age of both when death happened was around 30-35 years. The pair were loaned to The Penn Museum (Pennsylvania, US) and on display until 1980, when they were placed into storage.
