One of America's Oldest City (when The State was Spanish Colony in the 16th Century AD) – St. Augustine has seen many Flags during it' long life. And as such, it has more than it's share of Ghosts and Ghost Stories. Several center around The St. Augustine Lighthouse. Established in 1824, it has been a constant spot for misery and mystery. The original Builder (who also owned the land), lost His Tower and Land when City Officials undercut His Ownership legally. Lighthouses were often used a form of money making venture, often contracted by The US Coastal and Revenue Services (later known as The US Coat Guard). The US Lighthouse Service was in essence a collection of privately owned structures, leased by The US Government. Having His ''Business'' taken from Him, The Owner/Builder swore revenge. But He must have threatened the ''wrong person'', because before He could bring forth a Legal ''battle'', he was found dead – face down in His Flower Garden (at the base of The Tower. He apparently ''fell to His Death'' (officially). ''He is still Heard''.....''swearing and cursing, stomping thru His Flower Garden''. Fast Forward to 1880 and the next ''Keeper'' His young Daughters were playing on the nearby Hill. Both fell to their tragic deaths. Inconsolable, The Keeper killed Himself as well. It is said that ''He'' can still be seen, standing on the Lighthouse death ''searching'' for His Girls. ''They'' are also sometimes ''heard'', laughing and playing – as if ''hiding from Daddy''.
Another ''popular'' Tale, was before The Lighthouse was built. A small island before being added too and ''made part of The Coast off St. Augustine, it was rumored that executed Pirates were buried there. And being Criminals, no one cared to move their bodies. ''13'' such ''Corpses'' are said to rest below the foundation. And while most of these ''stories''' are easily ''Urban Legends'' meant to generate Tourism – One can never be TOO sure........
