Savannah, Georgia (US), is a City "Out of Time", in many respects. It's "Old Section", hardens back to the 18th Century, and reflects Early Colonial British influences, including a "quaint and rustic" Inn called "Pirate House". Built in 1753, it is one of the few remaining original structures from that Era. It also had a Dark past.....and a few Ghosts. Originally a place frequented by Sailors and Privateers, it had a reputation as a "hard and dangerous place".
This brings us to The "Press Gangs". A common practice in the 18th Century for "recruiting" Seamen - it involved an unwilling Subject, who would be drugged (in his drink), or when "thoroughly drunk", hit over the head. The now unconscious victim would either be sold or taken by a detail from a eating Ship in the nearby Harbor. Taken aboard, when they awoke, they were forced to serve. If they didn't, they would be thrown overboard. As one can imagine, it was a horrible situation either way.
The Owner of Pirate House made quite a living as an Agent for Press Gangs. The Inn had a large cellar with "secret tunnels" (no doubt used for smuggling illegal goods). He was known to chain up his "Recruits", while awaiting their "sale". Eventually caught, tried and executed by The English Authorities, the Tavern was never quite the same. It always served as a place for unscrupulous people, well into The 19th Century. Falling in disrepair, it was eventually saved by the State of Georgia, and renovated as a Historical Landmark and Museum.
In this comes the story of Ghosts and restless Spirits. People Touring Pirate House are just as likely to accidentally photograph a "Spook" here than anywhere else. "Cold Spots", feelings of dread, even the occasional "Phantom hand" touching someone - all has been reported at some point. Most of the Paranormal activities stem from The Cellar, where so much grief and pain occurred. At night, it is common for Alarms to activate in the Museum for no reason. Windows are found opened (as are doors), without any one found responsible. A large collection of photographs can be found of "Ghost Faces", peering through most windows at Pirate House. Skeptics cite "tricks" of light. Perhaps they are right, or.......
