Parris Island, South Carolina has a long and interesting History. A 16th Century French ‘’Colony’’ (and later taken by The British), some form of ‘’Military Activity’’ has always been associated with The Island. But it’s most famous link to past and present History, is that since 1915 – Parris Island has ‘’created’’ United States Marines (thousands upon thousands of them). As the primary recruit Training ‘’Depot’’ (Base) which serves The ‘’Eastern Coast’’ of The United States, Parris Island is only one of two such establishments in the Country which trains Marines (the other being Camp Pendleton, California on The ‘’Western Coast’’). The Island has many tales of courage and tragedy. The tragedy comes in the form of those few Marines who for a myriad of reasons, cannot endure the often harsh Marine Training required of all who wish to earn the Title. Of these, over the years – many have been suicides. Rather than face embarrassment hat Home (and other reasons), some young recruits have taken Their life (using firearms, hanging and of course – cutting Their Wrists (veins). These few sad events however are still ‘’witnessed’’ (by some). MANY Recruits (and Drill Sergeants alike), have reported over the years of very decided paranormal events and experiences.
From the unmistakable sounds of ‘’crying’’ (when no one is present) to the actual visible images of ‘’shadows’’ that are obviously ‘’young recruits’’ (often seen in out-of-time clothing), wandering thru The Barracks. Cold Spot are VERY common, as are the feelings of ‘’someone’’ pulling off blankets from sleeping Marines. Many of the supposed Spirits are thought to be from the many suicides in the 1960s, during The Vietnam War. And while many of these phenomenon could be explained, many still believe that these are the Spirits of those who took their lives in training. Strangely, Camp Pendleton in California does not suffer from such ‘’issues’’, making Parris Island even more ‘’unique’’ than it already is.
