Roger Morris was a British Military Officer, who lived in Manhattan, New York (US). He built His rather impressive home in 1765. Married to Colonial Eliza Jumel in 1770, it was said She was very ''ambitious'' with regards to ''marrying wealth'' Morris was some 15 years Her Senior, and it was seen as not too unusual in ''those days''. But shortly before the start of The American Revolution in 1775, Morris was found dead in His bed...under ''mysterious circumstances''. Some say He was poisoned by Eliza, who stood to claim all His fortune. The War served the purpose of ignoring any real inquest into Morris death. Eliza would co on to become one of New York's most wealthiest Woman. She would die in the 1850s, seeped in wealth – having never married again. The home, preserved for History as the very first ''Mansion'' built in Manhattan (9-Rooms), has developed a reputation for it being haunted. In the upper floor, hangs a portrait of Eliza, with what some say is a smirk on Her face (as if ''knowing'' She got ''away with it''). But standing and staring ''too long'' will cause one to ''feel great cold'' and even ''get dizzy''. Further, a ''Colonial'' Woman (shadow figure) is often reported ''drifting thru the upper floors) – where it was said Eliza spent most of Her later years. Whispers, footsteps, Morris-Jumel Mansion has it all...at some point.
