A New England (US) legend from the mid-19th Century, The Ghost of Whooping Hollow is still somewhat celebrated in that region. According to local legend, the Ghost is said to inhabit the dark woods outside of the Town. In the Colonial days (1790s), local Militia decimated the Native American Tribe in the area (quite brutally). The sole survivor (prior to being put to death was the Tribal Medicine Man. He promptly cursed the Town and it's inhabitants (unto eternal generations). Unrest and unease would reign. To this day, if a brave enough soul ventures out into the Hollow, he or she will hear the Indian whooping cry echoing throughout! The story gained in regional popularity in the mid-19th Century.
