This Legend is from The City of New Orleans, Louisiana (US) – and is said to date to the early 19th Century AD. It deals with a French Colonial who fell in love with an interracial woman (known in The Era as an ''Octoroon'') of French/African American). And while such ''trysts'' were common, they were not condoned in what was deemed ''polite Society''. Perhaps He really loved Her in fact. The ''light skinned beauty'' was ''head over heels'' in love with The Man, no less. But to make sure she was, He told Her to wait for Him on the roof of a Social House – for Him to set His affairs in order. Later that night, He promised He would come for Her and they would ''escape'' The City and it's ''ways''. But the Lad got too drunk and forgot His ''Miss''. She stayed up on the roof with her bags, waiting for Him. It started to rain....it started to get cold. By morning, she was very sick. By the end of The Day – our Lass was dead. When The Man found out, He was very saddened and it was said He left The City.
Since that time, The House on Royal Street in New Orleans – has had a ''permanent Visitor''. It is said that the Spirit of The Girl is still said to haunt the Building. Some involved in local Folk Magic (Voodoo), state that The ''Girl'' will remain in The House until her ''Beau'' returns for Her. Never ''mean'' – The Spirit does like to ''associate'' with any ''handsome man'' who comes to The House. Strong ''sensations'' of ''love and sadness'' are very common, as are Household Objects that ''move'' or go ''missing'' on their own. She has also reported to have been ''seen'' at times – ''standing on the roof of The House, looking out for Her Lover''....who will never come!
