An iconic symbol known The World over, The "Hollywood Sign" is located atop Mount Lee, in Griffith Park, Hollywood - California. Built in 1923 as a Real Estate Advertisement (and only supposed to remain for a year), it became synonymous with the number one Export of Hollywood - Movies. City Father's decided to keep The Sign in place. Then, it read "HOLLYWOODLAND". It would remain such until the ending "LAND" was removed in 1949. The Sign overlooked Hollywood through "good times and bad". It is a particularly "bad" incident, that is the point of our story. Millicent Entwistle (known as "Peg" to her friends), was (like so many thousands before her and after) - in search of fame and Stardom. She wanted desperately to be a Film Star.
Finally getting her "break", she was a featured small part Player in a Major Film to be released. However, the Film ran too long, and all her scenes were cut. In despair that her chance had "come and gone", on the night of September 18, 1932, Peg made her way to The Hollywood Sign. Climbing to the top of the 50-foot Letter "H", she leapt to her death to the rocks below. Her body was discovered the next day by a Hiker. From that day onward - "Peg" has been "seen" many times. Either wandering the many Hiker Trails, or "reliving" her tragic moment of jumping, all have been reported by mostly well respected observers. Despite numerous attempt to photograph "Peg", nothing has been captured on film.....yet!
