A Leonardtown, Maryland (US) Legend , Moll Dryer goes back as far as the 17th Century. It is said that Moll was a Witch of some renown. When a local plague brought about death, naturally The Townspeople blamed her for this. They hunted her, chased her and drove her into the freezing snows of the nearby woods. Stopping the chase and leaving her to her ends, it was said that near a river bank, Moll flew exhausted against large flat rock and there died. However, her Spirit inhabited the stone. All who went by the river and came near the stone suffered all manner of malady and bad luck.
Later, in the 1870s the rock was moved (all 800-pounds worth) and placed outside of City Hall. This was seen as a Tourist Attraction of sorts. Once there, it is said that if you pass too close to the stone, you will get dizzy (even pass out by some accounts). On darker notes, some have claimed to have seen a strange mist rising from the stone around the time in December when Moll Dryer died. Every attempt to catch a photo results in the camera never working again.
