After the tragedy of 4 years of Civil War which tore The United States apart, ended in a Northern victory on April 9, 1865 - another Event occurred on April 14th the of the same year. That was the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln. While attending a Play at Washington DC's Ford Theater, an Actor turned Southern Radical named John Wilkes Booth, shot The President in the head, and escaped. He was found in hiding (a Barn) and surrounded by Federal Cavalry a week later in Northern Virginia. The Barn was set on fire. As Booth (with a broken leg) made his "getaway", he was gunned down.

Ford's Theater became a "dark place" thereafter, spending more time closed than open. It would later stand abandoned until a complete renovation in 1968 to turn it into a Museum and National Landmark. It this is the "Ghost Stories".... Many a worker told tales of a "Dark Figure", lurking in the backdrops and scenery of the Stage. Some heard "screams" from some "Phantom Audience". Creaking floorboards as well as "crying" heard in The Presidents Box Seat, were all reported. Night Guards would claim they heard something "crash" on an empty Stage (harkening back to how Booth got his broken leg. He jump from The Presidents Balcony to the Stage below - some 30 feet with a "thud"). It got so bad, Guards refused to work at Night or simply just quit.

Since it's re-opening, Fords Theater has been visited by Millions of Visitors from all over The World. Many will claim feeling of sorrow and anger. Perhaps it is just from being made aware of the tragedy that causes these feelings in people. Perhaps, it is "something" else.
