The Edwards Air Force Base Incident

Astronaut Gordon Cooper is best remembered as being one of the 7 US Men chosen for America's initial Space Program. He was credited with being in Space the longest (1965) for The Mercury Program. He was also Commander of Gemini 5. He is one of the few Astronauts who actively believed in UFOs and Extraterrestrials. This was probably because of his well-documented 1957 story involving actual photographic proof of a UFO. In 1957, Gordon (an Air Force Captain), was stationed at Edwards Air Force Base in California. He was assigned as a Test Pilot and Project Manager (so had access to Top Secret Aircraft and Restricted locations). On May 3, 1957, Gordon had sent his Team to set up a highly classified and complicated Photographic system at the Test Range of Edwards Air Force Base. The Camera equipment was designed to catch 1-frame per second (in perfect clarity). This was important when evaluating experiment Aircraft. During their set up, the Team stated that a large Saucer-like Craft suddenly appeared over them.

As Scientists and Technicians they calmly began to use the equipment (as well as standard 35mm cameras), to shoot up to 1-hour of what was said to be absolutely incredible and unbelievable footage). The Craft (acting as if it wanted to be photographed), leisurely drifted away and off into Space. The Team brought back the film and photos to Captain Cooper. He watched it MANY times. Being good Officer he sent it to Washington D.C. For scrutiny by The Air Force. The evidence was reportedly given to Project: Blue Book to investigate. No other mention of the incident of photographic evidence was given by The Government. Copper would always mention the incident (with no fear of reprisal)- up until his death. He firmly believed that The US Government WAS hiding evidence of UFOs and Alien Contact.
