A well known 14th Century AD ‘’Tale’’ which originated in Germany – ‘’The Devil’s Coat’’ was seen as a cautionary tale. It’s premise would be copied later (in a fashion), in English, French and Italian mythos stories. As the story goes, a Man (who is very poor), makes a ‘’deal with The Devil’’ for ‘’all the money in The World’’. The Devil appears and grants The Man’s wish in exchange for His ‘’Eternal Soul’’. The device used to give The Man wealth? A Green Coat (although in later versions The Coat is any color). The Devil states that everytime The Man reaches into the Coat’s pockets, they will always be full (and never empty) of money. But ‘’all that glistens’’ is best applied when The Man is accused of murder. Sentenced to death, His Coat is of no use. Be Careful of What You Wish For?
