Bucksport, Maine is perhaps none for very little in The United States – nationally. But locally, it is well known for a ''Witches Curse''. One that apparently still manifests itself – today. The Village was founded by Colonel Jonathan Buck, He was a Colonel of Colonial Militia during The Revolutionary War (1775-1783). He also had a low tolerance for Witchcraft. It was said that Colonel Buck (who also served as The Village Mayor), tried and convicted a local Woman as a Witch. She was found guilty and executed by burning at The Stake. As She burned, it was claimed She uttered a Curse on Buck. This Curse was that He would be ''marked by a stain of the injustice perpetrated upon Her''. As Her body burned down to a skeletal ash, Her leg broke off and rolled out of the fire. Her tortured remains were buried (but no One is sure where). The Colonel would die of natural causes in 1795 and buried in a small Tomb. 75 years after His death – The Witches Curse came to pass. It was noticed that an imprint of a ''leg'' appeared on the face of The Colonel's Marker. The blackened image was scrubbed and scrubbed, even chiseled – but it continues to re-appear. It seems The Colonel's ''injustice did indeed cause a stain''....forever to be seen.
