The ''Brazen Bull'' of Phalaris

An Ancient form of slow Torture/Execution, The ''Brazen Bull'' goes back to Ancient Greece  (4th  Century B.C.). - to the Tyrant Phalaris. In practice, a bronze cast bull statue was constructed (hollow). It would feature an opening on the statues flank. A Victim was placed inside and the opening closed and sealed. Next a brazier or fire was built under the statues belly. Eventually, heat would build up and the victim would slowly burn or “roast” to death. Insult added to injury – the “Bull” had a clever opening in the throat that caused the screams of the victim to sound like the ''bellowing of a bull''. Rome also used a form of The Bull for torture and Execution as well.
