1962s ‘’The Brain That Wouldn’t Die’’ is a ‘’gem’’ of camp, poor acting and a wacky music soundtrack (even for 1962). Still, the film served as started the time honored Horror Genre of the disembodied Head story line. As we have seen in MANY reviews – the classic Plot line ‘’can’t go wrong’’. Our Story centers around a gifted young Doctor who has developed a method of replacing damaged body parts with ‘’fresh ones’’ (gotten unethically, of course). The ‘’Good Doctor’’ has a beautiful girlfriend (Nurse) and a quasi-deformed Lab Assistant. Having attempted several times to perfect His ‘’past experiment’’ (a Creature pieced together and given life – ala ‘’Frankenstein’’) – and kept locked up, The Doc gets a phone call form His Assistant that The ‘’Monster’’ is acting up. Grabbing His Girlfriend, They speed to His secluded mountaintop home. But loosing control of His car, They crash. The Doctor is thrown clear, but His girlfriend is killed (decapitated). Grabbing he Head, He stumbles home and ….You guessed it – re-animates it. His goal now is to find a suitable body to graft Her head onto! Unfortunately, being ‘’disembodied’’ has the tendency to make you go insane……and give you untold telekinetic powers. Our ‘’Head’’ is able to control The Creature with sheer mind power, and uses it to exact revenge. The rest is predictable – but no less fun to watch. Although a ‘’B –‘’ Movie worthy of perhaps only Drive-In Movie viewership, the Film has garnered quite a Cult Following over the years. Available pretty much everywhere – ‘’The Brain That Wouldn’t Die’’ is a ‘’gotta see’’ – if for nothing more than the ‘’fine acting’’…….by The Head!
