An important component in Ancient Egyptian Funerary Rites – ‘’The Books of Breathing’’ were a series of specifically created (for a particular deceased), which were recited by Priests. The Prayers were intended to allow The Dead to ‘’exist’’ in The Afterlife. As is commonly misunderstood, the term ‘’Breathing’’ was not the literal act of respiration – but meant to mean, ALL facets of Living (Breathing, Sight, Heart, Brain etc) which were needed to be ‘’Living’’. The first example discovered of ‘’Books of Breathing’’ dates to 350 BC. They would be entombed with the intended Royalty or Ruler after recitation.
