Fortress Manoel was built as a Harbor Defensive ''Castle Work'' in 1723, on The Island of Malta. Administered by the ancient Order of The Knights of St. John (Malta), it resisted a several French assaults during The French Revolutionary Wars. Eventually falling under their control, it would be taken over by British Forces, who used it in World War II to support Anti-Aircraft Batteries. The Fortress was bombed by German Forces, which caused some damage to the Old Chapel inside. But around 1944, Tales from The Garrison tell of the ''solid image'' of an ''ancient Knight in Black Armor'' wandering around The Fort. His ''appearance'' was quite common for some. It was until The Fort and Chapel was renovated in the 1950s, that Workers found an ancient Tomb beneath The Chapel. Inside, the scattered bones and remnant s of Armor were found. Some stated that the remains (disturbed) were of a former Order Grand Master (perhaps annoyed by having His resting place so assaulted). Workers said that when the work was finished, and the remains were properly re-buried, The ''Black Knight'' stopped appearing. That is until the 1980s. Vandals broke into The Fort (now a Museum), and stole Artifacts – including breaking into The Grand Master's Tomb. It took 2 weeks to repair and as a result, The Grand Master's remains were removed. As soon as this happened, ''He'' appeared yet again. As guessed, when finally replaced – the phenomenon stopped. In short, as long as He remains ''undisturbed'', The ''Black Knight'' will remain at ''rest''.
