An underrated but amazing scary film from 1963, The Birds was based on Daphne Du Mauier's same named 1952 Novel. Set on a rustic California Island, in a small Coastal cove called Bodega Bay, it is the type of place where everybody knows everybody . Birds of all kinds come to the Island on their normal migrations (Gull, Crows, etc). Suddenly (and without real explanation) groups of Birds begin to viciously attack Humans! Trying to peck out their eyes and tear away their faces (which they succeed in doing many times through the film), soon immense Flocks all converge on the Island. Humans must lock themselves inside buildings (and board them up as well). Fleeting reports on Radios on the Island, tell of similar attacks happening throughout the World (again without any true reason given). This adds to the creepy tone of the movie as well. In the end the Birds stop (but for how long), as the survivors of Bodega Bay are allowed to leave their Island now belonging to THE BIRDS! Turned into a feature film by Suspense Master Director Alfred Hitchcock, The Birds is a color Thriller/Horror again truly underrated! Of additional note for Sci-Fi Fans, it also starred Rod Taylor (the original Time Traveler from 1960s The Time Machine ). It has been remade in the early 2000s (with the possibility of yet another).
