''Something'' happened on September 22, 1964 which today is still hotly debated. Did The US Air Force launch an Atlas Rocket on a routine test, only to have it ''shot down'' by an Extraterrestrial Craft Was the entire affair orchestrated to ''showcase'' Alien Technology that would be made ''available'' to us in exchange for ''concessions'' You be the judge.

1964 was a rapid year for The US Military. The ''Cold War'' was slowly ratcheting up, with both The former Soviet Union (Russia) and The US constantly testing new and improved Missile and Rocket Systems. Both had a shared agenda. Preparation for a Nuclear War (which had brought both Countries to The Brink in 1962) and the ''Race for Space'' Exploration. Vandenburg Air Force Base, located near Lompoc, California was a very active location, as it had been for the past decade. On September of 1964, a planned test of The Atlas Missile System was scheduled for the very early morning hours. The Atlas was one of The US Governments most advanced ICBMs which was part of The ''Nike Defense Program''. Into this Program was propelled one USAF 1st Lieutenant Robert Jacobs head of Vandenburg's Photographic Squadron. Their mission was to provide documentation of the planned launch. So important, that The Government arranged a specialized Astronomical Telescope from Massachusetts to be fitted with a 35mm Camera. High speed film was used for the test. Jacobs and His (6) Man Team filmed the launch from beginning to a very early end.

Before The Rocket could achieve it's maximum trajectory range, it began to break apart. While such events happened, it meant that the wreckage would be scattered in The Pacific and difficult to recover. Regardless, Jacob and His Team finished their work. Jacob too the film to be developed and from their had it sent to His Base Commander's Office. Within 30-minutes of this however, Jacobs was summoned to The Office.

Entering His Commander's Office, Jacob's noticed that a projector had been set up and that in addition to The Commander two Civilian's in Grey Suits were sitting on a nearby couch. They said nothing to The Lieutenant, only ''watched him'' continuously. The Commander said sternly to Jacobs's If He or His Team had been playing around with the film''. Jacobs had no idea as to what His Commander meant, and stated no. He then proceeded to outline His Mission from start to finish. At this point The Commander told Jacobs to watch the film He had shot. The films showed (with great clarity), The Atlas launch. At the moment of the failure, Jacobs ''saw'' what His Commander meant. Coming in from the far right of the frame towards The Rocket was a ''glowing, Saucer Shaped Object'' The Craft flew quite effortlessly to within several hundred feet of The Rocket, which was traveling at an estimated 1,800-mph. Suddenly, a ''bluish, white Beam'' was emitted from The Saucer. The Beam impacted on The Rocket (which shuttered, but continued onward). The Object then completely encircled the speeding Rocket, and once again ''fired'' at The Rocket's Warhead (which was inert). With this second strike, The Warhead separated, and The Rocket began to fall from it's trajectory to crash. When The Commander asked Jacob's ''what He thought'', Jacob's responded with ''It Looks Like We Have a UFO''.

The ''Grey Suits'' still did not speak. The Commander glanced over in their direction several times. He then told Jacob that ''He'' (meaning Jacob) had never been given such an assignment and that He should never mention The Incident again. When Jacob pressed the issue of identity, The Commander simply said that Jacob and His Crew had captured a top secret Laser Targeting device (which is unique, because The US Military did not have remotely anything of this nature at the time, and such devices would not become available until well into the late 1980s). Jacobs did as He was told. As the years passed, Jacob became more and more interested in the subject of UFOs. After The Military, He would become a key note speaker, no longer afraid of reprisals (although He claims He was threatened by telephone many times over the years). No trace of The film was ever found, although with Jacob's testimony, several animated reproductions of The Incident are widely available for view.

Did a US Military Asset come under ''attack'' by an alien Spacecraft Some say ''yes''. Other point to the possibility that The Craft was merely ''demonstrating'' the ''effectiveness'' of Laser Weaponry. Perhaps a ''trade'' between technology and secret Bases All these have been put forth as possible explanations. It should be noted however, that in the 1980s, such Laser Platforms to be used by The US to target potential Soviet ICBM Strikes against America were very much becoming a reality. One such Project was referred to as ''Star Wars'' in reference to the popular Sci-Fi Movie Franchise. Today such technology can easily be installed on Fighters and Interceptor Jets, Ships and even Submarines. All things considered, to this day The US Government staunchly maintains That The Atlas Test failure was nothing more than a simple malfunction.
