On December 3, 1967, Police Officer Herbert Schirmer was on routine patrol outside of Ashland, Nebraska. It was around 2:30 A.M. - when He saw what appeared to be ''red lights'' ahead of him. Thinking it was a broken down truck, he hit his high beams and continued. Schirmer saw not a truck, but was appeared to be a large Disc-shaped hovering about 8 feet off the ground in the road in front of him. The Craft was at a slight tilt.  Just as quickly, it shot off above the Police car and out of sight. Getting out of his vehicle, Schirmer inspected the site. Nothing was seen. He drove back to his Station in Town. He then noticed that it was almost 4 A.M! Schirmer had no explanation for the time loss. Within a week, he began to experience horrible headaches, loss of sleep and finally a strange red welt appeared on the back of his neck. A biopsy of the welt showed a small piece of metal composed of iron and silicon. Schirmer had no clue as to how the fragment got there. It was suggested that he subject himself to hypnosis. It was in this state, that his true story emerges.

Schirmer stated that he was taken on board the Object by Beings. They were Humanoid, but had somewhat ''cat-like features''. Their skin was Gray and that they didn't blink their eyes. All the Beings wore a one-piece coverall (that covered them head to tow, save a full face opening). They also had some form of single cup or pad attached to their right hear with an antenna . Schirmer also made not of the strange Flying Serpent insignia that they all had on the front of their overalls. The supposed Leader Being told Schirmer that they would return to visit him several more times and even give him a chance to see The Universe . Schirmer quit his job as a Policeman. He gained some fame for his Encounter.  However, his Friends never returned. Schirmer was able to provide details for Artists to create images of very detailed Craft interiors . His case is often seen as one of the first ''Mental Communication'' attempts experienced by some Abductees.
