Another procedure (as opposed to a device), ''Strappado'' involved securing the Victims to a cross bar by the arms (wrists or forearms)  - and pulling their arms rearwards (and up). This was accomplished via a hook or pulley). The victims body weight (pulling down naturally) would cause dislocation of the arms and pulling (or ripping) of the muscles. In cases of less heavier victims, weights could be applied to the legs to accomplish the same goal. Sometimes known as "Palastinian Hanging", it was a popular torture method in The Middle East. The Strappado was used with great effect during The Spanish Inquisition.
